Manga Briefs Roundup: January-March 2019

Editor's Note: While our news staff strive to bring as much of the most important manga, anime, and video game news to our readers as possible, we sometimes find that we have news items that we aren't able to publish in a timely manner, and in the end discard them. Most of these news items are ones found in various manga magazines that don't get picked up by other news outlets. In an attempt to help get more of these news items out into the public, we're publishing a roundup in one fell swoop.

The below news items are sorted by the date the news was announced.

Aki Katsu published the third and final chapter of his Futari H Another spinoff manga in the third issue of Hakusensha's new Harem digital manga magazine on January 29. The manga is a spinoff of Katsu's Futari H (Manga Sutra) manga.

The official website of Shueisha's Grand Jump magazine revealed in February that Yūji Moritaka (also known as Jōkura Kōji) will launch the Captain 2 manga based on the original Captain manga by Akio Chiba. The new manga will debut in the May issue of Grand Jump Mucha on April 24.

Moritaka launched Play Ball 2, a sequel to Chiba's Play Ball manga (itself a sequel to Chiba's Captain), in Shueisha's Grand Jump magazine in April 2017.

This year's sixth issue of Shonengahosha's Young King magazine revealed on February 25 that manga creator Ryuta Amazume (Nana to Kaoru) is publishing a new two-chapter manga titled "Sefure." The manga's first chapter debuted in the magazine's seventh issue on March 11.

Manga creator Yuhki Kamatani put the Busshi no Busshin -Kamakura Hanbun Busshiroku- manga back on hiatus on February 25. The manga recently resumed after a two-year hiatus last December. Kamatani launched the manga in Square Enix's Gangan Online digital magazine in November 2013. Square Enix published the manga's fifth compiled volume in December 2016.

The April issue of Kadokawa's Comic Alive magazine revealed on February 27 that Yūsaku Igarashi and Shaa's Nogizaka Asuka no Himitsu sequel novels are receiving a manga adaptation in the magazine that will launch this summer. The novels launched in 2018, and are a sequel to Igarashi and Shaa's Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu light novels.

The April issue of Kadokawa's Comic Cune magazine revealed on February 27 that Akiyoshi Ohta (See Me After Class) and Ataru Shunkatō will launch a new manga titled Ore no Tomodachi ga Kawaisugite Komaru! (My Friend is So Cute it's Causing Trouble!) in the magazine's next issue on March 27.

Manga creator Sayaka Mogi announced on Twitter on February 27 that she plans to publish the sequel to her Red Riding Hood's Wolf Apprentice (Akazukin no Ōkami Deshi) manga at the Comitia dōjinshi event in Tokyo in May. Mogi had ended the "first pat" of the manga in Kodansha's Bessatsu Shonen Magazine in December, and stated she planned to self-publish the rest of the manga. Kodansha Comics is publishing the manga in English digitally.

Circlet Princess -First Bout-, Ponkotsu-Works' manga adaptation of DMM Games' Circlet Princess web role-playing game, ended in the April issue of Kadokawa's Dengeki Maoh magazine on February 27. The manga launched in Dengeki Maoh in January 2018. The game's television anime adaptation premiered on January 8.

The April issue of Kadokawa's Comic Alive magazine revealed on February 27 that Kasumi Morino will launch a manga adaptation of Saginomiya Misaki and Hiten's Sankaku no Kyori wa Kagiri Nai Zero (Bizarre Love Triangle) light novel series in the magazine's next issue on March 27. The novel series ranked #8 in the bunkobon category of the 2019 edition of Takarajimasha's Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! guidebook.

Morino draws the art for the Konosuba: An Explosion on This Wonderful World! spinoff novel series, and also drew the art for the novels' manga adaptation. Yen Press licensed the novels.

This year's seventh issue of Shueisha's Margaret magazine revealed on March 5 that it will publish three spinoff chapters for Suu Morishita's Shortcake Cake manga in the manga's ninth issue (April 5), combined 10th-11th issue (April 20), and 12th issue (May 20). The manga ended in the same issue. Viz Media is releasing the manga in English. The manga's 12th and final volume will ship in Japan on July 25.

This year's 14th issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine revealed on March 6 that Jun Sakura's Yugami-kun ni wa Tomodachi ga Inai (He Does Not Have Any Friends) manga will end in three chapters. Sakura launched the manga in Shogakukan's Shonen Sunday S magazine in the magazine's July 2012 issue, and the manga switched over to Weekly Shonen Sunday as of the 48th issue. Sakura is publishing the manga once a month in Weekly Shonen Sunday.

The manga inspired two anime commercials.

The April issue of Shogakukan's Petit Comic magazine published the final chapter on March 8 of Tomu Ohmi's Mitsuyokon: Tsukumogami no Yomegoryō manga. Ohmi launched the manga in 2015, and Shogakukan published the manga's fifth volume in May 2018.

Viz Media has published Ohmi's Midnight Secretary and Spell of Desire manga in English.

The issue also announced that Maki Enjoji (Happy Marriage!?, Koi wa Tsuzuku yo Doko made mo) will publish a one-shot manga in the magazine's next issue on April 8.

The April issue of Shogakukan's Monthly Shonen Sunday (Gessan) magazine revealed on March 12 that Riki Taoka and wogura will launch a new manga titled School x Tsukūru in the magazine's May issue on April 12. The manga will have a color opening page. Taoka previously drew the Wagahai no Heya de Aru manga, which inspired a live-action film in September 2017.

The spring issue of Shogakukan's Coro Coro Aniki magazine published the final chapter on March 15 of the Future Card Shin Buddyfight Holy Iden spinoff manga. Masanori Yoshida drew the manga, which launched last year. Mitsuhisa Tamura's main Future Card Shin Buddyfight manga ended in the Coro Coro Comics magazine on February 15.

Manga creator Tsutomu Takahashi (Ice Blade/Jiraishi, Neun 9) ended his Black-Box boxing manga in the May issue of Kodansha's Afternoon magazine on March 25. Takahashi launched the manga in June 2015. Kodansha published the fifth volume in May 2018, and the manga's sixth and final volume will ship in June.

The May issue of Kodansha's Be Love magazine revealed on April 1 that Keiko Suenobu's previously revealed new manga will launch in the magazine's July issue on June 1. The manga will take place in a large apartment complex.

Keiko Suenobu is known for her Limit, Life, and Life 2: Giver Taker manga.

The issue also revealed that Yoko Shoji will launch the Yūtaimon manga in the magazine's June issue on May 1, and Rin Saitō (3 Years) will launch the Suishō no Hibiki manga in the same issue.

The official website for Shueisha's Ribon magazine revealed on April 1 that Minori Kurosaki (Buddy Go!) will launch a new manga titled Ui×Kon in the magazine's June issue on May 1. The first chapter will be 54 pages long with a color page, and the manga will feature on the June issue's cover.

Kurosaki's Buddy Go! manga inspired a series of anime shorts in 2016.

The May issue of Shueisha's Ribon magazine will publish the final chapter of Mizuka Yuzuhara's Koi Bakkari no Sekai de Watashi wa Kimi to (I'm Together With You in a World Full of Love) manga on April 3. Yuzuhara (Nanairo Kakumei, Nekota no Koto ga Ki ni Natte Shikatanai.) launched the manga in the magazine in April 2018. The manga centers on Chieri, a girl who has just entered middle school and joined a classroom full of people who only talk about romance.

Shueisha is listing that Taishi Tsutsui's We Never Learn manga will get a novel on April 4 written by Homubane. The manga's television anime adaptation will premiere on April 6.

Amazon Japan is listing that Ren Kanan will pen a Real Account 0 novel based on Okushō and Shizumu Watanabe's Real Account manga. The novel is listed with a release date of June 7. Kodansha Comics is publishing the manga digitally in English. The manga is inspiring a live-action film adaptation.
