Greg Russo is the scriptwriter for the proposed sequel to Netflix's Death Note film, as well as the rewrite of the planned Resident Evil reboot. He also wrote the reboot of the game-based Mortal Kombat film franchise that will start production in South Africe this year, and he is writing the proposed film based on the Saints Row video games that F. Gary Gray would produce and direct.
Warner Bros., New Line Cinema's parent company, acquired the film rights for Space Invaders in 2014. At the time, Warner Bros. attached producers Akiva Goldsman (I Am Legend, Constantine, Paranormal Activity), Joby Harold, and Tory Tunnell to the proposed project, with Matt Schwartz of Weed Road Safe House Pictures and Warner Bros.' Jesse Ehrman also attached to the project.
Space Invaders debuted in arcades in Japan in 1978, followed by its introduction in American arcades later that same year. The iconic game puts players in control of a cannon guarding four bases from slowly descending rows of aliens.
