Shockingly, you have yet to actually present an argument in opposition to my opinion.

If by awful you mean from a titillation standpoint, definitely. Considering almost any h-manga will be vastly more effective, you can objectively say that erotic content of story-oriented eroge isn't very good.

Not only that, but unless you're playing some sort of international release, the images from said scenes are almost always mosaic-ed to the point where you can't tell what the hell is going on downstairs. Unless, I dunno, macroblocking happens to be your particular fetish. Razz

Have you ever considered the possibility that the reason that they come out with all-ages versions in order to increase the amount of potential customers, as opposed to your "theory" that it is done in order to eliminate "stigma"? The creation of visual novels is a business after all.......

You...just proved Fence's point. They put all-ages versions to increase their audience, because some are put off by the fact that they're "porn games".

I gotta say I own a couple of those ero games and would like to say that although the sex scene may be a little on the bland side I enjoy it for the and the emotional impact of it. Though I do tend to pick my ero games carefully as well. Do not want a School Days ending. Embarassed

Really own, or "own" meaning "on my hard drive?"

Now that's a cheap shot and you know it...

The visual novel/eroge fandom is still niche enough that I'd assume most of us who do buy (as in legitimate purchases) do additionally have other games/drm-free versions downloaded on our drives... I believe him at least, and if Blackwolf0925 has 'downloads' aside from those is beside the point.

As for what you're discussing, yes a lot of times the 'adult' aspects are gratuitous and could easily be removed without affecting the story much. And then, there comes one, who manages to create a complete mess by trying to strip those from a game that absolutely needs them.

Case in point; Moenovel
They release If My Heart Had Wings. With sex scenes stripped. As well as most innuendo. To make it more sellable at lower rating.
First problem; It happens to be a game by Pulltop, an eroge-only company(with a few exceptions only +18 titles)
Second problem; It relies HEAVILY on the 'adult' aspects for the plot for several of the routes(yes, banken, some times those things can have a relevance to the plot).
Third problem; Grammar. Mismatched voice/lines. Lines that don't make much sense in context. Most likely due to efforts to rewrite away the innuendo(I'm specifically looking at you, Ageha(route)), though doesn't exactly explain the botched grammar/sentencing.

MoeNovel also announced plans to publish another visual novel sometime in the future, allegedly in same fashion.
The Stinger; Their available catalog is limited to PullTops games as they're sort of a subsidiary of it as opposed to a straight up licensing company.

Needless to say, many opted to play the game with the patch applied that the fans had created to reverse most of those changes.

It's one thing to make an anime 'adaptation' that removes adult scenes and keep the story cohesive. A lot harder with making an all-ages version of a game where those instances aren't gratuitous in the original and your options most of the time come down to cutting scenes. Unless you're aiming for something big like a console version, the cost probably won't allow for an outright 'adaptation'.

Box art and all. I make legitimate purchases on my games, even with eroge. I don't like pure downloads I am a collector or sorts.

I can see how taking out the adult scenes won't take away from the story. But I like to think of it from the players perspective. When I playing these games I am not just playing for titillation aspect of it, I am enjoying the story behind it as well. People tend to forget that some people enjoy adult rated material with a little more than just the adult aspects of it.

I am curious to know, are people so put off by adult material such as eroge that it is all the same to them. Granted there is good and bad material in every sort of medium. If people don't like these type games that is fine, I just don't see the logic in attacking a medium that other people tend to enjoy.

I'm not attacking erogames (although VNs are, by and large, boring as hell), I'm questioning why people think adapting them into non-adult anime/manga is a good idea. FWIW, I like erogames although I rarely play them. Frankly there are so many new titles that are all so hard to tell apart that it's impossible to keep up. And I can't stand having to replay the game dozens of times while taking notes just to see every story branch. Especially when the changes in the story are often based on non-consequential choices.

Lemme see what I can think of off the top of my head.

Saya no Uta

Yeah. I suppose one could argue that the sex scenes are unnecessary, but I think that they are needed to set the mood for the VN, as well as giving some insight into Fuminori's overall mindset. And it's not like removing the sex scenes is going to do very much to make Saya broadcast safe. I certainly hope that not very many people would read Saya for the sex scenes. So...yeah.

Fate/stay night

Part of the problem here is that the sex scene replacements in Realta Nua are sort of silly. I mean, I won't deny that the sex scenes themselves are silly, but they needed to do better work there. I also feel that Sakura's characterization was worsened some by the edited scenes in Heaven's Feel. I guess it wouldn't be completely impossible to preserve Sakura's characterization without the sex scenes, but again, they needed to do some better work.

Hmm, I seem to have lost the thread of what I was trying to say. I guess I would agree a lot of the time plot-based VNs jam in extraneous sex scenes that are simply unneeded. But even in the case of a VN like F/sn, sex scenes can potentially serve some other purpose than tittilation.
