cool, wonder if it'll be that different from the original or just the same story from different points of view

Considering how much Robotics;Notes flopped (both the game and anime) this does not surprise me in the least.

Well the anime is projected to not even break even sales wise. Not sure about the VN, but the anime so far has been too heavy on slice of life for many people and not enough thriller.

I like it though.

The game sold fairly well, it was well in to the 100k range on release. The anime on the other hand is suffering from low sales like everything in that time slot. They also planned the anime along side when they made the game so odds are they're just using it to sell more of the VN is they're going to release a PC or vita port at the end of the anime's run like they did with S;G.

The first week sales of both the PS3+Xbox 360 version was just under 75K source - NeoGaf. That's pretty decent for a small publisher in Japan on home consoles.

The game is average...nothing unbelievably amazing as S;G, but that's a little hard to top. 5pb really set the bar for themselves or maybe the fans set the bar instead?[/url]

whoops thought it sold more than that since it stayed on the charts for awhile.

I enjoyed the VN and people really need to stop going in to the series thinking it's another grand amazing story like S;G. It's completely different character and story wise.

Sorry, I meant that the game flopped in terms of overall fan reaction as it didn't have anywhere near the word of mouth praise that Steins;Gate did. That it could only stay 2 weeks on the charts illustrates this quite well. It sold well, but mainly due to the initial hype generated from Steins;Gate. The anime however is near the bottom when it comes to pre-order estimates for fall season.

And people on this site keep on forgetting Noitamina is primarily about RATINGS (rating has decreased for this slot however but that is another story) NOT DISC SALES.

For all you know this anime could not be targeting disc sales since its airing via Noitamina, this is definitely not the slot to go for disc sales despite good success with a couple titles (i.e Anohana)

So dont go on grouping Noitamina with your usual late night anime and what seems and obsession of those shows fans have with disc sales to prove the superiority and or popularity of its favorite title.

Not really these days. Noitamina in the last year barely does better ratings than your standard late night anime. At times the Thursday night TBS block outdoes Noitamina in ratings now.

In the end, it does kinda come down to disc sales if they aren't getting the ratings anymore... this season is averaging around 1.5%, when old Noitamina could do near 5%. Most late night anime does in the 0.7-1.0% range so its not like its doing that much better.

Yes, as I have said ratings for the time slot have decreased, yet, Noitamina continues to be a about ratings not disc sales, the more clear evidence is that its still called noitamina (= timeslot not canceled or moved to 100% late night timeslot ) and airs unique series that wont get you disc sales and second it still has the usual advertisers (mainstream ones unlike those of late night anime --- losing mainstream advertisers = almost dependent on disc sales only).

I reckon that since ratings have decreased considerably Noitamina seems to be producing series that might have some success with disc sales to compensate (targeting hardcore fans) but disc sales fortunately (still) are not main or core objective unlike your usual late night anime, otherwise you can be sure we would not have been able to enjoy recent series like Sakamichi no Apollon, Natsuyuki Rendezvous, Thermae Romae, Horou Musuko, -to name a few- that were obvious since the planning stages that they would not get much disc sales.

Thats why I believe its UNFAIR OF YOU to come and say, hey, the anime will(is) flop and compare it to Steins;Gate when this is a series airing on Noitamina and that targets women primarily not your usual hardcore fans, this makes me believe the anime is not targeting disc sales alone or then you can argue that the anime got the wrong time slot and targeted the wrong audience.

I think its pretty safe to say that Robotic;Notes isn't being aimed at women, though. Psycho-Pass may be, due to the character designs being very fujoshi friendly, but with Robotic;Notes, its pretty much an otaku anime through and through. Noitamina has been having more and more anime like this in recent times, like with AnoHana, Guilty Crown, Black Rock Shooter, etc. I think this is because of the lowering ratings, they need to figure out some way to still make the block successful.

The PS3 version stayed on the charts for three weeks (including release week). Sold like 67K total before dropping off.

Considering the show is an adaptation of a VN from a popular series (science adventure series) by 5pb, the anime is an advertisement for the game currently released on the Xbox 360 and PS3 (as someone who is currently playing the game, the anime is pretty spot on overall). I would not be surprised if 5pb releases a Vita or PSP port next year after the anime airs.

While it's nice to have good disc sales, not all series solely rely on it.

I have no problem agreeing with this perspective, I believe so too, Noitamina its shifting and trying to balance the series, as you have noted they are introducing some series that dont fit the ORIGINAL SPIRIT OF NOITAMINA, some directed to hardcore fans for disc sales, as I said probably trying to counter the low ratings.

My issue is trying to measure the commercial success or not of Robotics;Notes with disc sales for the reasons I have mentioned, I at least have no doubt that if R;N was about disc sales would not be airing in a time slot that regardless of changes is still primarily targeted at women, second its a time slot that still relies on ratings the most.

I agree that this could be another of the series that seem to be trying to gather hardcore fans into the timeslot, and get some disc sales that despite that it might not get the high sales of awesome Steins;Gate, combine the ratings and you can see that it would very well do good for the cold perspective of money plus what superdry said its very possible too, that one of its objective is advertisements for the VNs.

Otherwise I find it hard to believe that if disc sales was the -only-target or only source of commercial success, and worst, target the huge success of Steins;Gate they would fail hard at choosing the timeslot with is well known characteristics and core audience.
